Dillon ASA Photo Archives

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Eric Morris a few years ago to talk about his days with Dillon in the late 70s and early 80s.  This happened to be the time when a young Mark Martin was getting into ASA racing in the Midwest.  Mark and Dillon spent a lot of time improving their chassis, and it paid off.  Mark won the ASA championship in 1978, 1979, and 1980.

I owe a huge thank you to Eric for letting me use some of his personal photos.

This is one of my favorite cars.  I have always liked the raw look to them.

Here's the car getting weighed in.  That's Bill 'Banjo' Grimm on the right.

Here's the crew before a race.

Mark broke both of his ankles in an ARTGO race on July 6, 1980.  This is the remains of the chassis after the accident.

Time got the best of this photo, but it shows how the team got around in the early days.

Eric used this schedule to record Mark's stats during the 1980 season.  All of the N.T.R. notes on the left side indicate a new track record for qualifying.  Mark's results are shown along the far right side.  It's no surprise that Mark won the 1980 ASA Championship.
