1998 was the first year for the Ford Taurus in NASCAR, and Mark won the Las Vegas 400 to become the first driver to win with a Ford Taurus in Winston Cup competition. Mark went on to win seven races and three pole in '98. He scored more points in the season than any other driver except Cale Yarborough in 1977, and yet, finished runner-up to Jeff Gordon for the crown.
