I have been a stock car racing fan since I can remember. I was born and raised in Anderson, Indiana, just a few miles from Sun Valley Speedway (now Anderson Speedway). It was there that I saw most of my early races, including the ASA Redbud 400/300 every year. I had two older brothers who were racers themselves, so I often looked to them for racing knowledge. It didn't take long before Mark Martin became my favorite driver. With my brothers, I would travel to Winchester, Salem, and Indianapolis to see ASA races and Martin. In those days, it wasn't difficult to get into the pits and talk with the drivers, so I would often do what I could to get close to the #2 pit area. As I got older, I started to attend the All-American 400 in Nashville, Tennessee each year. It remains one of my favorite tracks to watch short track racing. Today, I live and work in Indianapolis. I attend as many races as I can, but it never seems to be enough. I was at the first Goodyear tire test at Indy and all of the Brickyard 400s. I try to see as many events as I can at Indianapolis Raceway Park, the Speedrome, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I am finally at a point in my career that I can go to Bristol and Michigan once or twice a year. I have a very large collection of Martin collectibles, including die cast cars, personalized automobile plates, and a couple of rare promotional posters featuring Mark in his ASA days. I hope to create a page on this site with photos of some of these items. I'd also like to hear what everyone else. I started the The Unofficial Mark Martin Fan Page in 1995 as a hobby. Since that time, it has undergone several changes, additions, and deletions. I have been amazed at the number of people who have written me, thanking me, and complimenting the pages. If it weren't for the e-mails I receive every week, this project would become very burdensome. The feedback has been very encouraging. For that, I thank everyone who has written me. I have attempted to provide as much Mark Martin information as possible. If you have any ideas or comments on the Mark Martin pages, please don't hesitate to contact me. I also created and maintain both ovaltrack.com and Traveler Tech. Professionally, I currently work for 1stBooks Library (self-publishing company) as an Author Services Representative. - Chris |
